- Founder of the Mexican Network for the Study of Bacterial Resistance, the Mexican Consortium for the Study of TB, and the Mexican Candidemia Network. Principal Investigator and Founder of the National Clinical Laboratory for Maximum Biological Safety to study of tuberculosis and emerging diseases located at INCMNSZ.
- He has been distinguished with 38 national and international awards for his research work, including National Institute of Health Award (6 times), National Research Award by the Glaxo Foundation (4 times), Association Award Mexican of Infectology and Clinical Microbiology (15 occasions), FUNSALUD 2003 Biennial Award in Ophthalmology, CIBA-GEIGY Award in Clinical Research in Rheumatology, among others. He conducts basic, clinical, and epidemiological research in tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance with funding from the NIH, Wellcome Trust.
